Many patients do not have any signs or symptoms until NPC reaches an advanced stage. Historical data shows that approximately 80% of unscreened patients are diagnosed with advanced NPC. Late-stage NPC is moredifficult to treat than early-stage NPC and the survival rate within 5 years could be less than 60%.

Currently, there is no vaccination for the prevention of NPC as a type of virus-associated cancer.
